The first track is the currently unnamed "Peaceful Irish Music," which features an Irish whistle, Celtic harp, Uilleann Pipes and an Irish Bouzouki (a mandolin type instrument). It starts as a soft, calming melody that made me dream of taking it easy in the country. However, when the whistle and pipes enter, I began to feel a deep yearning for something I'd either lost or hadn't yet found but desired badly. The lead and backing elements paired created a kind of bittersweet feeling that's difficult to put into words.
Number 2 is "Scales of Steel." This is an intense track where I imagined a battle taking place. The percussion is set to the fore here, and as it intensifies I imagined an army closing in and forcing us into a conflict that would decide our fates and those of everyone in the city. I also have some background electric guitar present which makes this a bit of a hybrid track that I could also see being used in trailers and such.
Third we have "Home in the Sky," which for me was a very ethereal, lucid dream-like piece. It's kind of funny, but I imagined myself in one of those cheesy 80's or 90's music videos that are filmed in slow motion or reverse and you think you have a clue what is going on but you're not entirely sure. Something like Enigma's "Return to Innocence." Personally, I was getting lost in the same kind of vibe.
The fourth track is called "A Method to the Madness." This is an unnerving, slow-building piece. I can see this being used for Science Fiction as it's very synthetic and has a good bit of digital sounds. However, I could also see this being used in some kind of detective chasing a serial killer plot. I imagined the weird, unearthly sounds as a sort of metaphor for the killer's chaotic madness. The more our protagonist discovers about him, he realizes he's peering into the disturbed world of a true monster.
Next up is a reflective guitar, harp, piano and cello outing called "That Old Country Road." For this one I thought of being away from home for a long time and finally returning. I thought of the memories that might flood back. Some good. Some not so good. I thought of facing everyone from your childhood again and what they might think of you or feel about you now that so much time had passed.
And lastly we have a medieval horror track that isn't yet titled. So, tentatively, it's called... "Medieval Horror!" Trust me, it took a long time to think of that one. Using a Virginal (related closely to the harpsichord), some bells, choirs and a citole, I tried creating a haunted atmosphere that might fit a dark castle in the middle ages. This combines some melodic elements with ambience.
I'll start a private poll for the second tier and higher to cast your vote for the piece you want finished. Voting will end May 28th, so you have plenty of time to decide! Whichever track wins will be completed by the end of the month.
Thanks so much, everyone for your patience and continued support! I hope you all enjoy!
