June's Poll is here now that June is over! Yay! Talk about timely. I apologize for the lateness, everyone. I plan on having July's ready well in advance so this won't be a problem next month.
The first track is called "A Song on the Wind." It's a lovely little piece starting with some sound design elements to set the mood and a harp. After the harp's intro, a guitar and some higher pitched, echoing percussion join the mix. The lead is taken by a gypsy kind of sounding violin from the Balkans. I especially love its sound and I hope you all do too, because I would love to keep featuring it in some of the new tracks I release here.
Next is "Messenger of Light." It's a kind of holy, deeper purpose piece. We have a lot of voices and some pretty basic bass percussion that gives us a tempo and some weight. After the intro, we have some acoustic guitar, which is kind of an odd mix as far as instrumentation and "sound" goes. But after messing with it a bit, I thought the more acoustically raw sound of the guitar added a nice dimension to the very polished and cinematic sounding choirs.
The third track on the list is a sort of dark, sci-fi thing that mixes some ambient sounds with melody. The first 30 seconds or so is really just a dark intro. Once the organ comes in, we have our first sense of melody and it falls in line with everything else. It's dark, almost doomsday-ish. When I was writing it, I got the sickly sensation of a group of engineered assassins. Some kind of super soldiers who made it their specialty to take out entire blocks of a city at a time if need be.
The fourth piece, "Steampunk Masquerade," started as a sort of villain theme. As I continued to write, it kept a certain semblance of dark villainy, but, for me, it turned into a sort of wicked waltz or festive event. I got the picture of a masquerade ball in my mind where everything looks so well rehearsed and cinematic, but there are seedy deeds afoot. Look out for the guy with the mask! Oh, wait...
The last one is a track for some sort of loner, Byronic hero. An anti-hero. Someone who knows he's doomed, yet still tries to do what he thinks is right. Someone who doesn't live a saintly life, but tries to afford others the opportunity to exist as purely as possible. He's given so much and doesn't expect anything in return. I thought the mix of a lot of different choirs, men's, women's and children's, would pair nicely with a gangsta drum beat for a theme for "The Unforgiven."
I'll start a private poll for the second tier and higher to cast your vote for the piece you want finished. Voting will end July 10th, so there's plenty of time to decide!
