Recently I discovered a lovely collection of easy organ voluntaries by the forgotten American composer Albert H. Rosewig.
The ten pieces in this collection are really easy to play and can almost be sight read. But I have never felt that I am “too good” to play easy music. Quite the contrary. In my experience, easy pieces are often hidden gems that deserve to be heard. I played this march a bit different as different, I used a bit of a dotted rhythm to give the piece a bit more momentum. Next to that, I played the softer pieces a bit more bold to get a better balance. I didn't repeat the last part because I found it awkward to start a repeat after a few bars that clearly are the ending of the piece. I hope you like my approach!

*Albert Henry Rosewig (April 29, 1846 to May 7, 1929)* was a German born American composer, organist and choir director. He is best known for his large body of Roman Catholic church music, including masses, motets, anthems and hymn collections, all written in the rich Romantic style of the nineteenth century. After emigrating from Hanover, Germany, to Philadelphia in 1856 at the age of ten, Rosewig became one of the leading figures in the city’s Catholic music scene. He served as Director of Music at St. Charles Borromeo Church for nearly 35 years and conducted the America’s Centennial Chorus during the 1876 Centennial Exposition.
