“I believe Sardinia may be the most natural place for composing music, especially. All it takes is a blue sky, a pause in a bay on an island such as San Pietro, surrounded by an emerald-green sea, lying in a dinghy and letting the mind wander, reflect, and recall particular moments of one’s life—such as the life choice I once made when I left my hometown, Rome, to renew my spirit amid a wonderful palette of colors like those of Sardinia.
This is how this Cantabile came into being. My enthusiasm for this island gradually replaced, in my eyes, the historic beauty of Rome, a capital city full of magnificent monuments and world-famous churches. It would be enough to think only of the Colosseum and St. Peter’s Basilica. In this way, my life became divided into two periods, each with its own importance and beauty: a comparison between history and nature, between monuments built by human hands and those created solely by nature.”
