"For a Rocker" is a 1983 single by American singer/song-writer Jackson Browne. The song was sort of a departure for Browne in that it is a straight-out uptempo party number which he used used it to close out his concerts. It has been deemed as an apparent attempt to emulate Bruce Springsteen's work. Browne wrote the song as a tribute to James Honeyman-Scott, the guitar player for the group Pretenders, the guitarist's wife, and her sister. As a single, the song reached #45 on the Billboard Hot 100, but reached #8 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Tracks chart which ranks the most-played album songs on mainstream rock radio stations, a category that combines the formats of active rock and heritage rock. Jackson Browne was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame as well as humanitarian awards. He was bestowed an Honorary Doctorate of Music by Occidental College in Los Angeles, California for his "remarkable musical career that has successfully combined an intensely personal artistry with a broader vision of social justice".
