This 1965 version of "Sinner Man" by Cory Wells & The Enemys combines the sounds of Blues, Gospel, and Rock & Roll. As a garage rock band, who's success was short-lived, the song was their first single and became a moderate hit. Up against several up-and-coming groups, the band eventually became the house band at the Whisky A Go Go nightclub on LA's Sunset Strip in the 60's. More notably, in 1968 lead vocalist Cory Wells went on to form the well-known band Three Dog Night. "Sinner Man" is accepted as an African American traditional spiritual song that has been recorded by a number of performers and has been incorporated in numerous other media and arts. The lyrics describe a sinner attempting to hide from divine justice on Judgement Day. The song was co-written and recorded in 1956 by Les Baxter on which succeeding versions are based on.
