Im going through the top 20 Favorite Video Game Songs of all time as voted on by my community. This came in at number 8!
Ive had countless people requesting this specific song for what seems like ever. Ive always been strict on my policy of not covering songs from games that I havent played, since I feel like Im missing a core part of why that song is important to people and its also not nearly as rewarding while making the song as if I actually played it and experienced it for myself. That being said, it was inevitable that Id end up doing some songs from games I havent played in the this Top 20 series.
I played a little bit of the newest Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, but had a hard time continuing on at the time since it wasnt really what I was wanting to play at the time, but I was excited to see why people love this series. Still, it would be impossible for me to really understand how emotionally charged this song is for the people that played the game. Im choosing to the think about it as a gift to those of you who love this song and wanted to hear it in my style and I gave it my best shot.
The chords here were what struck me first, they are WILD. So many of the chords in this song had really out there extensions and voicings and instead of simplify it for the arrangement, I tried to really dig into what made each chord crunchy. The rhythm riff I came up with always highlights the add9 and maj7 of the tonic chord C which worked over the D and E chords that came after. I tried to make it riffy but adding these notes made it really interesting sounding so I had fun with that.
I hope you enjoy what I did with this song! I know its a really powerful song for a lot of you and I hope I captured it!

I have a dog now and she is my world, that is all.
Ive always wanted a tiny black hair pomeranian to play guitar to and tote around in a little sling so here I am living my dream. Marnie is 4 months old right now and is an absolute angel. Shes a very sleepy but curious puppy and its been fun to play with her and see what she enjoys. I wanted to do a video like this for a very long time, but I underestimated the attention span of puppies. Often during filming, Marnie would get a bit bored so wed stop the take so she could run around and have some fun before doing anymore. After we had done three takes (rhythm, bass, and leads), she wanted to take a nap so I ended up doing the close ups without her. She was still very happy to do some playful shots as well even though she was a bit sleepy. Im sure people in the comments will virtue signal about how dare I subject this precious dog to content creation, but rest assured Marnie was very comfortable throughout the entire process and was not pushed further than she wanted.
I had some trouble with mixing this one since Marnie also was with me for much of the process and I found it a challenge to resist petting and giving her all the attention forever during the process, but it turns out that she rather enjoys metal so it seemed like a fun project for both of us. The challenge lied in making sure I had a fan on to cool both of us during since its so hot in San Diego right now. She was so good during the whole process I made sure to spoil her with air conditioning and treats every chance I got!

I have turned down a inumerable amount of sponsors for this channel because Ive been less than excited about interrupting a playlist of my music or just breaking up the intended vibe of a video at all, but when I was reached out about this one, I definitely had to reconsider since Im such a fan of the game.
