I was a furious teenager when I was trying to be as metal and cool as I could be but I couldn't get Barbie Girl by Aqua out of my head. It just felt like it was playing constantly in my mind, so much so that I think I had a mix CD of all metal and then this song at the end, probably which got played the most.

Last year I think off-handedly, Lollia was over my house and she was like let's do Barbie Girl, and for some reason I had never been more ready to make a cover in my life. When she came to visit this time, we sat down and beasted out the whole arrangement. We both decided to lean into our edginess and make a gothic metal spin on it, I was so ready to flip the song into minor for this and didn't even realize that the song IS in minor. So I did the next best thing, Harmonic Minor. Adding some organs to really ice the gothic cake.

This was the first video I've ever gone all out with a shot list and took the whole pre-production for it really seriously. I had a lot of weird passion in trying to bring the most unhinged video I could, by being a psychopathic Ken to Lollia's e-girl esque Barbie. We shot on 6 locations across two days. It was so much work to edit together and then do some (campy and half-hearted) vfx for it, but I wanted to make something I'd be proud of. I hope it's a fun listen.
