Final Fantasy IV: Ultima is a hack by 8-bit fan that aims to present a more expansive version of the classic. New weapons, spells, bosses, and a modified overworld are just a few of the changes on tap.
The latest version of the patch can always be found here:

Version being played: 21.5
The longest running tour of optional bosses continues today! More updates with some new twists that required a restart....then me ramming into bugs I never noticed before that required another update and another restart. Maybe in a few months time I'll be done with showing off all the optional fights, heh.
In all seriousness though, the next optional boss to fall comes from one of the caves visited early in the game (which just so happens to house Rydia's Witch summon now).
This boss is a familiar face from the original Final Fantasy, the Fiend of Fire known as Marilith. She comes with a pair of Gorgons & Lamia Queens backing her up. All they really focus on is ailments with the Gorgons causing slow petrify and the Lamia Queens attempting to charm party members.
As for the main fiend herself, she also has a bunch of ailments at her disposal, some of which she can opt to aim at the whole party if she feels like it. Her normal attack also inflicts ailments...a good seven or eight of them to be precise. It can also be used as a counterattack and heal her for the amount of damage she inflicts.
The real danger though lies with her two big ticket damaging attacks, one of them she introduces to you right away, Sword Rain. This hits the whole party for roughly 2000-3000 damage each. Trying to survive this at low levels requires Edward to be fast enough that he can hide before everyone gets carpet bombed, then he can run damage control right after.
In my case though? Edward survived by the slimmest of margins...and everyone else too, including Rydia who had even less hp than him. That let Edward salve an X-Potion to get everyone patched up remarkably well, all things considered.
After her opener, Marilith goes into her ailment spamming phase. First turn she gets brings Sleep Gas (which she can aim at the entire party if she wants), then an AoE Hex, then a similar AoE styled Mini.
After that Mini casting turn, you are going to want to throw up Wall on everyone, be it from the spell, Light Veils, or Edward salving said Light Veil. That's because Marilith pops her other big damage move after it, Bio. She's got the magic power to make that hit even harder than Sword Rain did. It can be reflected though so if it bounces off all five party members (since she will aim it at the whole party), Marilith is gonna get rocked for a good 12-13k damage.
When Marilith runs low on health, she's going to start countering everything with a Cure 3 on herself for roughly 4000 or so recovered health. If your damage output isn't the greatest, having Rosa or Porom on hand to toss a Wall on to her is a good idea.
After the esteemed sword wielding fiend takes a nosedive, the rewards gained are twofold. First, you get a very nice weapon, the Slaying Tail. Boosts all stats except vitality by 15, inflicts no less than eight ailments, is effective on six enemy types (dragons, reptiles, giants, slimes, mages, and zombies), and lots of people can equip it like DK Cecil, Rydia, the twins, and so on.
The other reward is for Rydia & Palom. They both learn the Bio spell. Costs 45mp to fire off.
Next time, we go visit a volcano's sleeping dragon.
