Final Fantasy IV: Ultima is a hack by 8-bit fan that aims to present a more expansive version of the classic. New weapons, spells, bosses, and a modified overworld are just a few of the changes on tap.

The latest version of the patch can always be found here:

Version being played: 12.1

Time to knock out another new V12 boss. Today, the one in question is in a bit of an odd place...Damcyan Castle. Odd in the sense you have no reason to ever return to where Anna passed away, but evidently Edward left another harp all alone for anyone to collect.

There's just one problem though...evidently Edward forgot to tell his pet Storm Dragon in the area not to attack Cecil's party if they were so inclined to pick up the harp. Capital work there sir!

The Storm Dragon is very similar to Valvalis in terms of attacks. It has the same gradual petrify shenanigans, but doesn't spam it nearly as often as she did. Heck, you probably won't need to cure it if your damage output is high enough.

If anything, Storm Dragon takes some cues from its FFVI incarnation and uses lots of wind themed attacks. Stuff like Tornado for knocking a character to single digit hp is here as is some standard AoE attacks like Storm & Whirlwind, the latter of which is the harder hitting move of the two.

Besides all that, just some fairly strong physicals that carry a chance of inflicting blind & poison.

I tackled this fight after Edge joins the party for the first time and gets his grind session done to catch up with the rest of the team. Having another source to toss Mid Potions to the wounded is a huge help. Rosa may have some issues trying to keep up with the Cure 3 spam, given how often the dragon attacks.

Speaking of Rosa...if she somehow doesn't need to fire off a heal, just pass her turn. No doubt she could contribute some good damage, but the Storm Dragon has its own "Megaman X gonna give it to ya!" styled bitchslap...that Tornado move? It can aim it at the ENTIRE party. Whether or not it's due to a phase change at low hp, I'm not sure. If it is due to said phase change, it's an extremely subtle one as it really doesn't do anything massively different compared to the early portions of the battle.

In any case, having Rosa on standby means she can pop a Cure 3 when that happens and at least get everyone up to a hp level that can take a shot of Storm in the face. Cecil could even pitch in with Cure 2 if you want to be extra sure.

As for doing damage, Kain & Rydia likely have to take up the mantle. Rosa obviously is going to be too busy healing the whole time while Cecil & Edge help out with Mid Potion tossing if anyone needs an extra health boost. Kain does some fine damage with jumping while armed with a Gorgon Sword as does Rydia with either Virus or tier 3 elemental spells.

Once the dragon falls, the Loki Harp can be claimed. Not a bad weapon for Rydia to wield against the enemy types it's effective against (spirits, mages, zombies).
