Final Fantasy IV: Ultima is a hack by 8-bit fan that aims to present a more expansive version of the classic. New weapons, spells, bosses, and a modified overworld are just a few of the changes on tap.
The latest version of the patch can always be found here:

Version being played: 21.5
Well, this one was a fair bit long time coming, but Neo Bahamut's finally getting taking down.
Unlike my previous videos, I don't show my setup going into the fight. I do show it all off after the battle concludes though, mainly because Neo Bahamut is a real beast of a battle.
First off, NB's physicals hit something fierce. You'll want to stack a few casts of defense boosting buffs like Protect, Elf Cloaks, Paladin Cecil's Big Guard/Mighty Guard, and so on to mitigate it, especially for Edward who's the only reason I was able to beat this dragon.
Why's that? After a couple turns worth of physicals, he states he will not be holding back and unleashes one of two signature skills, Giga Flare. This hits everyone, but can miss people at times.
Right after that turn, his next one has him saying to brace yourselves, then pulling his own rendition of Megaman X giving it to EVERYONE in the form of his second and final signature skill, Tera Flare. All my defense buffing? Doesn't help when it still does a good 5-8k damage to everyone.
If you survive through that, NB goes into a cooldown phase which begins with using Black Hole to nullify buffs. When this happens and Cecil says something along the lines of regrouping, you can now begin to do actual damage to the dragon. NB comes out of this recovery phase when he casts Fast on himself. You can still attack and do damage after this, but he can counter with Giga or Tera Flare.
Afterwards, it all seems too easy. Physicals and single target Giga Flares for awhile...until several turns pass in which he says to get ready, then throws a Tera Flare out.
Once NB has taken a little over 30k damage, he goes into to some good 'ol "KILL EVERYONE!" violent mood swings. Basically, he does Tera Flare, then Vitalize, then back to Tera Flare if he's still under half of his hp total.
As for my strategy...it goes without saying that Edward is the only reason I didn't have to go grind another 15 or so levels. He can hide before Tera Flare comes, then return to the frontlines and throw out a salve'd Life to revive the party. He returns to hiding once the team's been revived.
Still, the big problem is Tera Flare & Vitalize spam in the second half of the fight. I need to bring NB down as close to the 50% mark as possible, then use a combination of Rosa, Rydia, and Palom to burst the dragon down before he spits out a Tera Flare. How do I do that without also triggering counters? Bouncing spells off of someone with Wall cast on them.
Between all the deaths going on, Palom's here for one main reason...his Boast command. Even with the wisdom of Rydia & himself capped, it still boosts the damage they will do with their reflected spells.
Took some time at the end, but NB finally got into a position hp wise where Rosa, Rydia, and Palom could burst down the last half of its hp and take him down for good.
The rewards for slaying the dragon are quite damned good as you'd expect. There's the Apocalypse Sword which has everything you can think of. Max attack power, stat boosts, enemy effectiveness. You name it, this sword likely has it. Being ranged and able to be used by anyone helps too!
Next, NB becomes a new summon for Rydia. Tons of damage and sets sap on all enemies. There's also some misc spell pickups (Black Hole for Rydia & DK Cecil, Reflect for Paladin Cecil).
There's also the Grand Armor, the best armor Cecil can use. Besides the litany of stats and defenses it provides, it also lowers his agility, making it easier to do agility anchoring strats with him.
The real rewards come when a couple shops open up. One of them is where the team met Fusoya for the first time. It requires the Hero Medal from the Crystelles battle, but presenting it opens up a shop with some very high end gear & consumables to take advantage of. Best get to grinding Pink Flans though to pay for everything!
The other shop isn't new per se, but it is in a place you've likely forgotten about, Kokkol's Forge in the underworld. The new shop owner in here sells some weapons that are likely outdated for you, but also a few items the moon shop didn't have like Ethereal Mantles, M-Cannons, and Soma Drops.
Now then, where could we utilize all these new goodies? In the Crystal Spire on the moon. Taking out NB opened up a door behind where the Eclipse Blade was. Inside is an arena of sorts with a Boss Rush you can take on.
...Hoo boy. If the one in Return of the Dark Sorcerer taught me anything, this is gonna be a rather LONG string of battles, isn't it?
More next time!
