The army marches ever onwards to the mountains to figure out exactly why Timaet is building bases within striking distance of Malthrak. The journey takes them through a quiet little town by the name of Silvermist, but either Timaet broke a world record for the fastest creation of a town or a rogue group of soldiers are threatening innocent people.
Either way, Baudimon attempts some civil discussion alongside Jakka & Samuel with the leader of this so called army, Wilhelm. As he so claims, they're looking for a deserter. A small army for one person? Feels like he's hiding the real reason here.
The moment Baudimon realizes the talks are going nowhere, he throws aside the civil discussion chatter and orders Wilhelm to take his army and get out of Silvermist immediately. That works about as well as you'd expect, bringing about the next battle map to clear out.
First off...a quick talk about our resident centaur joining the army, Garam.
Garam has some insane starting hp & str (46 & 15 respectively at lv10) and respectable stats everywhere else besides res. Decent growths except for skl & res too. Outrider grants Garam 5% crit and -1 damage taken per step he takes when initiating combat.
Make sure to bring that Antitoxin from chp 2 along as its purpose manifests here.
Thankfully Samuel is as strong as he is since the secret lunatic objective is something only he or maybe Garam can easily do. There's a house in the northwestern most part of the map and it must be visited before turn 6 rolls around.
As for everyone else, you can split into two teams. One follows behind Samuel to clean up all the rabble while the other team cleans up the eastern half of the map.
Treasure wise, the southwestern yellow house you can visit should be entered with whomever has the Antitoxin in their inventory. If you do so, you'll get a very nice Holy Axe in return, a weapon that's effective on a race called terrors.
For the red roofed villages, one has a Wyrmslayer, two make a bunch of weak green units come out and give whomever visited either one 50 exp, and the one next to the vendor in the southeast has the game's first trainee unit in Natalie.
Like all trainee units, using Natalie requires you to put some serious effort into her due to her bases and starting out with only an E in swords. Couple that with 16 hp and 3-4 for both her defenses means she very likely can get one shot or damn near it at this point. Still, 9 levels in her trainee class before selecting a tier 1 class along with quite reasonable growths means she can snowball very very hard if you put some work into it.
Natalie's personal skill is Fiery Spirit. Grants 15 to hit & avoid, but both values decay by 1 per turn.
By the time turn 3 begins, some commotion begins in the northwest house. Turns out two people are hiding out here, Theodor & Aylanda. Theo is trying to protect the "princess" while Aylanda mentions that they're only "looking for a member of royalty". If we check that against what Wilhelm mentioned earlier about a "deserter"...something's not adding up here.
Regardless, Theo rides out with a few no name green units to bring some peace to the town. Theo dying here has no impact on the story so don't worry about keeping him alive.
As turn 5 starts, one of Timaet's big wig generals comes flying in, Leonora. Wilhelm's expecting her help, but Leonora's all like "Naw, I'm not wasting my best fliers on this. Have my more cut rate units instead!".
Wilhelm then spills the beans...the deserter is really someone known as the Lightbringer and that Tendaris needs this person for...something.
Oh, and Leonora hinting at some internal conflict within Timaet, that too.
As she heads out, someone tags in for this chapter's secret event. Embla. She is not happy that she had to come out to the town and will straight up refuse to move. She does use her Physic to heal injured enemy units and she does have some kick to her attacks with that Holy Fire tome of hers. She has a Spirit Dust (+2 mag) that she drops (or you can steal).
If you engage her in combat, be wary of her Sol skill. Skill% chance to heal for the amount of damage inflicted (which a stupid green unit kindly demonstrates).
Around turn 9, Wilhelm will begin moving. Stat wise, nothing too crazy, just be mindful of his Resolve skill which boosts his str, mag, skl, and spd by 30% if he falls below 50% hp.
If Baud engages Wilhelm, he more or less confirms his real goal...finding a lost member of royalty, one that was basically all but chased out due to Baud's father somehow. Could there be another reason entirely for why Baud was sent here? It's possible.
More next time!
