Final Fantasy XIV on Nintendo Switch 2 gets a full frame rate test across a wide range of the game's areas, including major hub cities, open zones with combat, and two Trials, using a custom frame rate analysis tool.
Tested on Nintendo Switch 2.
The test covers the game's main city hubs across every expansion, from the original A Realm Reborn cities through to the newest gathering spots, alongside open field areas where I take on enemy encounters in Central Shroud and Heritage Found, with each area tested for 30 seconds. City hubs are historically the most demanding areas in FFXIV thanks to the sheer number of players, effects and NPCs on screen at once, while the open zones show how the game handles active combat out in the world. The test closes with two Trials, A Realm Reborn's The Hydra and The Ageless Necropolis, to show how the game performs during its instanced boss encounters.
The tool measures real framerate by detecting duplicate frames to calculate true FPS separately from the container rate, alongside per frame frametime data that reveals stuttering and inconsistencies that average FPS figures would otherwise hide. For an MMO where the difference between a busy town, open world combat and an instanced encounter can be dramatic, that distinction matters a lot when judging how the game actually feels to play across different content.
Whether you are an FFXIV player wondering how the Switch 2 version performs in the areas you spend the most time, or a fan of Switch 2 frame rate analysis, this test covers a broad spread of the game. Subscribe for more Nintendo Switch 2 frame rate tests.
