Challengingway offers Rydia and Luca a particularly challenging dungeon to explore.

I highly suggest you grind to at least level 28 in Agart Mines before attempting Rydia's Challenge Dungeon (the Healing Pot room is perfect for this). I went to level 30 for Luca just for the sake of speeding up this segment a little.

Rydia's Challenge Dungeon is no joke. You are stuck with just Rydia and Luca for the entirety of the dungeon, and it is full of Trap Doors and some heavy hitting enemies. For this purpose I recommend not going into the dungeon under a Waning Moon as it will only make the enemies here hit even harder.

The whole dungeon is essentially a maze of doors with a save room between each floor. Some cases some of the doors will be locked, rather than being a Trap Door encounter, in which case you'll have to try to open the door in your next run through the dungeon.

You will also run into torches on the wall between a pair of candles. If you inspect these torches you will be attacked by a Demon Wall. Many of these lead to dead ends, however, in each floor one will always guard the path to the next floor.

The first and second floor is simply finding the right path that leads to the next floor. In the second floor I run into a locked door that leads to three chests: A Lunar Curtain, an X-Potion, and a Monster-in-a-box that has a Mythril Shield which I don't get on this run.

Once you reach the third floor you're given a new challenge. Each side of the entrance has a series of three ropes that leads to the next platform. One of these ropes will have a difficult set of encounters on it, another will have a single encounter, and one of them will have no encounters at all.

For those wishing to follow my path here are the ropes with no encounters from the far left platform:
The center rope, the right rope, then the middle rope will lead to a room with a Monster-in-a-box with Mythril Armor.
Back out and down the center rope and over to the center platform. Going up take the center rope to reach another room with another Monster-in-a-box with a Polymorph Rod.
Back out, down the center rope, then go down the rope on the right to reach another platform with a Cottage, Remedy, and Spider Silk on it.
Back up the rope on the right, and over to the far right platform, go up the rope on the right to reach the Demon Wall that guards the next floor.

Make sure you rest up and save, and by all means make absolutely sure you don't continue on a Full Moon, as you will soon see why. In the next floor you'll run into an NPC, and when you speak to it you are ambushed by three more and thrown into the fight with the boss of the dungeon.

This boss fight will always start out as an ambush. You're up against Boss Gobby, and three Minion Gobbys, these guys will fight much like the General and Soldiers you fought early on in the original story with the boss telling the minions to attack getting three quick hits in. Things change up, however, if one of the minions are damaged. Then, instead of attacking, that minion will use Self-Destruct dealing however much HP it has left as damage on one of your team.
One major point I want to stress now. Do not take out all 3 of the minions. If you do this, the Boss will get angry and essentially buff himself with Protect, Shell, Haste, and cast Curaja on himself before laying into you with hits of nearly 600 damage, which will easily take you out. Instead, take out all but one Minion, then focus on the Boss. Once you hit the boss, though, be ready as any damage will cause him to cast one of three spells: Thundara which will deal minimal damage, Bio which will deal decent damage, or Firaga which will deal a hefty amount of damage. Always keep your health above 1000 when attacking the Boss in case he hits you with Firaga. Rydia can dish out major damage herself though if you have her Bio spell, and Luca with the Tomahawk or using Big Throw will make short work of the Boss, and once he's down just take out the last minion for the win.

After the Boss is gone you can get your reward chest. Much like Ceodore's dungeon you will get a random rare item from a pool of items. These items are:
Gaia Hammer, Flame Shield, Flame Mail, Gold Hairpin, Sprint Ring, Black Robe, Elixir, Soma Drop, Silver Apple, and Adamantite.
Once you've gotten one of these items they will no longer appear in the chest, and once you've gotten them all you will only get X-Potions.

I'll be getting the rest of the items off-cam, and so we are done with Rydia's Story. In the next segment we'll be starting up Yang's.
