Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on Nintendo Switch 2 hides its most challenging encounter behind one of the most rewarding optional quest chains in the game. Gilgamesh, the secret superboss of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, is unlocked by completing all six Protorelic quest chains across every region of the world, earning access to Gilgamesh Island in the northeast of the Meridian Ocean. A recurring Final Fantasy villain making his debut in the FF7 universe, Gilgamesh is a six armed eccentric swordsman who wields a wide array of iconic Final Fantasy weapons across the fight, including the Muramasa, Genji Shield and the infamous Excalipoor, which starts by dealing just one point of damage before unleashing thousands of rapid strikes that can tear through the party in seconds. He is weak to Fire and vulnerable to Poison, but his speed, wide reaching attacks and enormous move pool make him one of the most demanding fights in the entire game. Defeating Gilgamesh rewards the Gilgamesh Summon Materia, crafting recipes for the powerful Genji accessories and unlocks the Brutal and Legendary Challenges in Chadley's Combat Simulator.
