Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition targets 4K and 60fps, and this video tests the frame rate across several areas using a custom frame rate analysis tool to see how consistently it holds that target.
Tested on Nintendo Switch 2.
The test covers four distinct areas, Argentum, Gormott, Uraya and Mor Ardain, giving a spread of environments from enclosed hubs to the sprawling open regions that make Xenoblade Chronicles 2 so demanding. It also includes a frame rate test of the brand new Merc Assault mode, the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition's biggest new feature, which lets you directly control Blades in a fast paced action minigame for the first time.
The tool measures real framerate by detecting duplicate frames to calculate true FPS separately from the container rate, alongside per frame frametime data that reveals stuttering and inconsistencies that average FPS figures would otherwise hide. For a large open world JRPG pushing 60fps on new hardware, that frametime data is key to understanding whether the experience actually feels smooth in the busiest areas, not just how high the average sits.
Whether you are a Xenoblade Chronicles 2 fan wondering how well the Switch 2 Edition holds its 60fps target, curious about the new Merc Assault mode's performance, or a fan of Switch 2 frame rate analysis, this test covers a broad range of the game.
