Beast of Reincarnation is the latest game from Pokemon developer Game Freak and their first AAA title outside the series, and this video covers the first 22 minutes on Xbox Series X, where not everything goes smoothly.

Beast of Reincarnation is a one-person, one-dog action RPG set in a post-apocalyptic Japan in the year 4026, following Emma the Sealer and her blighted dog companion Koo as they journey across a corrupted, ruined land. Built in Unreal Engine 5 and drawing influence from the likes of Dark Souls and Bayonetta, it is an ambitious swing for Game Freak, launching day one on Game Pass Ultimate alongside its PS5, Xbox and PC release.
Unfortunately, this opening stretch runs into a few problems. The video captures some drastic frame rate drops, as well as a moment where the character gets stuck under the ground, the kind of technical rough edges that stand out especially given the ongoing conversation around Game Freak and performance. This is a first look at how the game actually runs and plays in its opening 22 minutes, issues and all, rather than a polished showcase.
