Playing through the first 40 minutes of Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition on Nintendo Switch 2, from the opening all the way to the first real wall, Margit, who promptly puts me in my place.
Captured on Nintendo Switch 2.
Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition arrives on Nintendo Switch 2 today after one of the more dramatic development stories in recent memory. When a build was shown at Gamescom 2025, it reportedly ran as low as 15fps, with journalists blocked from recording it, and FromSoftware delayed the port into 2026 specifically to sort out performance. That extra time clearly paid off, with the launch version reviewing strongly and running at a mostly stable 1080p 30fps in docked mode. This first 40 minutes gives a real look at how the port actually plays.
Tarnished Edition is a complete package, bundling the base game, the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, and a new Tarnished Pack with two new classes, Heavy Knight and Idus Knight, alongside extra weapons and Torrent armour cosmetics. For anyone experiencing Elden Ring for the first time on Switch 2, this is the most feature complete version of one of the defining games of the decade.
And of course, no first 40 minutes of Elden Ring would be complete without Margit, the Fell Omen, the infamous early boss that has humbled countless new Tarnished. He does exactly that here. Whether you are curious about how the Switch 2 port turned out, a returning Elden Ring fan, or a newcomer, this gives you a proper first look.
