Went to Washington Court House yesterday to see the downtown Model 7. This siren is located in the bell tower of the historic Fayette County Courthouse and has been up there since 1962. The courthouse itself was constructed around 1882, and has only undergone minor alterations over the years. Both this and the Whelen OA-4 on West Elm St. only run for one 3 minute cycle; unlike the Sentries in the county which run for 4 consecutive 2 minute cycles.
This siren covers downtown Washington C.H. and was much louder than I expected it to be in the busy downtown district. I included the bells from the bell tower in the beginning; the siren itself starts around 1:06 in. You may be able to hear the echoes during the wind down. Pardon occasional maxing of the mic, that was caused by the upwards of 40 MPH winds we had yesterday. I could hear the 3 Sentries in the city still going after the test, but they weren't picked up on camera due to the wind. You may also be able to hear the OA-4 wind down while the 7 is though.
Fayette County tests on the last Friday of every month at noon; except for sirens in Jeffersonville, which are tested on the same day but between 9 and 9:50 am prior to the outlet malls opening. The tests will continue on this schedule year-round. Enjoy!
