Today, I went to Hiram to see their 2001-SRN for its weekly test. Aaron (Ohio Outdoor Warning Sirens) joined me at this test. I would also like to thank Hiram FD for keeping their promise and testing longer (today they went for 30 seconds instead of the usual 10 second alert). This siren was recorded last by Bill Ungar (NEO Trains and Sirens) back in December 2015, about three years ago, so I decided to film this one for a more current recording. It sounds higher pitched now than it did in 2015, and has that classic 2001 high pitch. You can hear the 508 periodically throughout the video if you listen closely (the 508 is only about a mile from this siren and was added around 2014 for extra coverage).
This siren was installed by Federal Field Services, and judging by the newer-looking FFS sticker on the control boxes, they probably came back to work on this unit at some point.
This siren is a later-generation SRN, probably installed around 1999 or 2000. It is located at Hiram Community Park right next to the Fire Department. It's kind of hidden in the trees, and you have to go around back of the fire station by the baseball field to actually see it; although it's easier to spot now since it’s winter.
Hiram has three sirens (this 2001-SRN, a small-logo 2001-SRNB, and a 508) that are all tested weekly every Saturday at Noon, year-round, not dependent on weather conditions.
