UPDATE: Two more 508's in Barberton have been found (they were installed with the other two 508's to indirectly replace the three inactive EOWS-612's in October 2014 but we didn't find them until now), bringing the total number of sirens in the city to 5. This Thunderbolt will remain in service for as long as possible and the city has no plans to replace it and keeps it well maintained. Sirens also now cover the entire city, with the installation of the 508s in 2014.
Today for my very last test as a resident of Northeast Ohio, (I move on Wednesday of next week), I decided to go see the Barberton Thunderbolt again along with Cameron (Sirens of NE Ohio) and Bruin (StormWarning04). It was great meeting up with them again, especially since this is my last test in NEO. This siren is still chugging along well and sounds just as healthy as it did the last time I recorded it. The echoes are absolutely amazing on wind down. The church bells started before the test and were still going after the test, so I included the church bells before the test as audio in the intro slideshow. With the echoes and the church bells, it sure makes for a creepy sound during the test.
This siren was installed in 1954-1955 when the Municipal Court building was constructed. Sometime in its life, this Thunderbolt was restored and repainted to this nice cherry red color. The controls for the siren are in the basement of the building. This siren has a 6M blower.
Barberton's siren system, comprised of 4 FS 508's (all indirectly replacing three SiraTone EOWS-612's in Oct. 2014) and this Thunderbolt 1000 are tested every Saturday at noon during the months of March through October for 30 seconds, not depending on weather conditions.
