Licensed music can have a wonderful place in video game soundtracks. From Starsailor's "Way To Fall" during the credits of Metal Gear Solid 3, to Poets of the Fall's "Late Goodbye" during Max Payne 2's credits. Faunts' "M4 (Part II)" joins those in its sublime use during the credits of 2007's Mass Effect; this eight minute wonder that serves as the cherry on top for such a memorable experience as Mass Effect. The mid-way climax that gives way to an extended coda is just genius; the words still ringing in your head as the rest of the song plays out. And fuck me, the "And I need you to recover/Because I can't make it on my own", that works for me on the same level as Brian McMahan's "I MISS YOU" on Slint's "Good Morning, Captain."
What I didn't know until many years after finishing Mass Effect, is that there are four songs that were supposed to come after it. And after having heard part two of M4 so, so, so many times, it took a lot of adjusting to the immediate calm of Sleepwalker before I really started to enjoy what this album/EP has to offer. I don't like uploading things necessarily for the sake of it, I upload things I enjoy a great deal, so I didn't want to cross myself on that until I was sure I could appreciate this body of work. It took long enough, but I can say I've had this on repeat for weeks and am enjoying it greatly. Of Nature, in particular, is plain beautiful. I must say I love everything about this song. I love the way its last tone leads into part two of M4. It's subtle, but it's there. This song steals the show for me. Whenever I put this album on, I just know Of Nature is waiting for me. Its content particularly resonating with me during this time of my life.
It's a nice touch that while M4 Part II and Sleepwalker end on dejected notes ("Because I can't make it on my own," "The floors crack, the walls suffocate,") Of Nature ends on "Waking to the silence in your voice/Waking to the light, I'll now rejoice." In fact both M4 Part II and Sleepwalker are incredibly anxious in lyrical content when you give it a good perusing. You can clichely sum all this up as "Of Nature is the light at the end of the tunnel" shenanigans, but that's not the whole story. Even Of Nature, with "This day is dragging on, why don't you die " isn't totally lighting. But it's hopeful in a way the other songs aren't. That dejectedness, that hope, those are always magical to me the way everyone finds and records that experience of finding the light and struggling in dark. It's a large part of why I listen to music.

I dont think its any stretch to say that Acid Mothers Temple is my favorite band of all time. These guys are just endless inspiration and endless pleasure of the ears. Originally I had another AMT album in my queue of things to listen to, Chaos Unforgiven Kisses, but I mistook it for this one. I hadnt heard this one before, and what the goddamn I was fucking floored. Just totally. The riff Kawabata Makoto improvs over is absolutely infectious for the mind, and Pikachus drums/vocals just send me sky high. AMT is no stranger to vocals in their performances or studio work, but shouting akin to Boredoms is something I never knew I wanted from AMT. Its so perfect, like hot sauce AMT always needed.
There is something to be said about vocals really helping to drive, or color, longer instrumental pieces. Look at Amon Duul IIs 18 minute masterpiece, Yeti. Chris Karrer and Renate Knaup briefly trade and share vocal duties in the songs breakdown. They come out in frenzied shouts, giving the listener something to really hold on to. I wish I had a better way to describe it, but a similar and perhaps more crystal example is on Boredoms 55 minute noise piece, GO!!! Five minutes of sampling and light noises before vocalist eYe shouts GO!!! into the listeners ears. Then its cacophonic noise for...almost then on. Theres a spoiler, and I wish I didnt have to do this to illustrate my point, but around the 20 minute mark, all sound stops, like an engine sputtering out suddenly, when eYe shouts the band back in again with another GO!!! Theres an enormously different, I would say lesser, energy without eYes vocals at the beginning and 20 minute marks. The same thing is happening here, on Master of the Cosmic Inferno, and the Pink Lady Lemonade rendition. Tabata Mitsurus constant Pink Lady Lemonade! and Youre so sweet! Ooohh youre a Pink Lady Lemonade! just add oodles of fun to a classic AMT track. Factor in the noise and fuzz, either from the quality of the recording or some alterations to their instruments, and this is just a damn perfect live show. Some people might be put off by Doobie Wonderland, I know I was, but Ive learned to really love it. Disco, hey! Helps that the show doesnt end with Doobie, but with more PLL. Chimanaco (Bloody Eyes) was a female threepiece from Japan. I found them by chance here on youtube at this address:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPxB5btoXBE
and immediately fell for this album. Normally I dont like to upload albums other people have with so many views, as I like to expose people to things that arent really anywhere, but I really feel that this is an absolute treasure. Chimanaco has come and gone, the band having changed their name to Shiroi asa ni saku (Blooming in the white morning) with the departure of its drummer and bassist, leaving the lead vocalist to form her own solo projects under the name Suicideblue, but Chimanaco left us with a golden piece of work. Unbridled emotion, poppy tunes, and two closers that are to die for. Please see the link aboves description for links to the bands official blog, Suicideblues youtube page, and other relevant information.
If somebody could please translate the lyrics, that would be wonderful.

Working, getting older, losing friends, losing lovers. Elizabeth Mitchell, and Daniel Littleton, hit these marks with finesse, passion, and really great harmony. Theres something pulling me back under your covers/But a woman who knows better sees that its time to leave is a wonderful couplet in F. Boyfriend/Baroque Boyfriend that says just enough about the relationship and the narrator, presumably Elizabeth Mitchell: Its not the best relationship, and that theyre too immature to leave it. But we have to go through these things to become that someone who knows better. Especially when were losing friends because were so busy with other things (Temping) that they cant help us.
And then theres Dollface and Dog Show. Perhaps Im missing something, but I think they interrupt the flow of the album more than anything else. More so Dog Show.
I hadnt really been much for music, lately. My last upload was a month ago with 33.3s self-titled. But this just really swept me away. One of my most enjoyed discoveries in a long time; I really do adore this album. Im almost sad that Ive nearly got all I can out of it and will eventually look for new albums to absorb. Coupons is incredible, ditto for Looking Through The Glass. What a work. Ida - Tales Of Brave Ida (lyrics in comments)](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/wv3LDtpLYpg/mqdefault.jpg)
