I can only assume this is the Lexi on bass, Sooyoung on guitar, Craig White on guitar, and Mac McCaughan lineup.
Seam released two versions of the Kernel single, one that ends with Feather, and one without Feather but with Shame and "Dynamite Truck." The recording quality is also different for the title track on each, and I prefer how it sounds on this version. Kernel is a strange track. It gallops along like nothing else Seam has done. The lines "It's alright, it's alright, it's alright, that's what I tell you" are very uncharacteristic of Seam's more dejected lyrics. It's a welcome break, and I revisit it often. Shame is a track that would appear on Seam's first album, Headsparks, but with vocalist Sarah Shannon of Velocity Girl. On this single, it is much slower and has Sooyoung on vocal duties. Sweet Pea, here, lacks the distinctive second guitar that really drives it on The Problem With Me. Vocals are also more pronounced, and the "I know" bit not being shouted. A neat little novelty. Driving The Dynamite Truck is a cover, but wow. Seam really takes it and makes it their own. I adore this version. Had it on repeat for fucking days. I really wish Seam had put out more music with these shouting type of vocals from Sooyoung. Every single time Sooyoung goes "YOU'RE PURRING IN MY ARMS, fuck it gets me so good. In another life, perhaps, they did more like this.
