Welcome to my channel! This is Andy from I love languages. Let's learn different languages/dialects together.

Portuguese is a Western Romance language from the Iberian Peninsula and is the official language of several countries, including Brazil, Portugal, Angola, and Mozambique. It also holds co-official status in places like East Timor and Macau. Portuguese-speaking nations are called Lusophone. The language spread globally due to colonial expansion and originated from Vulgar Latin dialects in medieval Galicia and Portugal, retaining some Celtic phonology. With about 300 million speakers, Portuguese is the fifth most spoken native language and the second most spoken Romance language, after Spanish.

Macanese Patois is a Portuguese-based creole language with Cantonese, Malay, and Sinhala influences. It originated in Macau, primarily among the descendants of Portuguese settlers who often married women from Portuguese colonies like Malacca, India, and Ceylon, contributing to the language's diverse influences. Today, it is spoken by a few families in Macau and within the Macanese diaspora. UNESCO classifies it as "critically endangered," with only about 50 speakers recorded as of 2000. The language emerged in the mid-16th century when Macau became a key hub for Portuguese activities in East Asia.

This video is created for educational, language awareness, and language preservation purposes.
