Hi, Matt with etrailer. Today we're going to be talking about the Brophy Figure Eight Coupling Link that's going to be 3/8 in size. So let's take a closer look at it. Now, these are going to be pretty handy for a couple of situations. So if you just have some safety chain loops that are kind of odd shape that don't really work well with your hook to your safety chains, that might be a reason to go with something like this or that is a little bit short of making contact with your safety chain loops. A good way to extend that distance is with something like this.
I did want to go over what it's like to actually use. So I got a couple examples. Again, this is going to be designed for your 3/8-inch large lengths. But what that means for your safety chain hooks is something around this size is going to work just fine. So grab it on here really easy.
This is going to be a much better option than trying to get this hook up here past this natural pin here. Outside, even if you have that S hook-style, this is pretty easy to hook up at the very top. You still got to avoid something, but at the end of the day, it's just going to be a lot easier from this point here, especially since this does pivot and kind of moves a little bit more than something like your safety chain loop. Now, I do have some larger hooks on our trailer today. And you're going to notice that this doesn't want to go on there all the way.
If you have a way to secure the very end of it, that might not be bad, but what I would recommend is going up a size with these. So if you have something like a military trailer like I have right now, I'd recommend going with the size of this that's going to be a half inch instead. Now I do want to go over a couple of specs. So this here is going to have a weight capacity of your work and load limit of 7,000 pounds. Now, for the brake limit, that's going to be 28,200.
Really what the difference there is, the brake limit is just what it's designed to actually brake at. And then the work and load limit is what you can safely use it at when you are towing your trailers behind you. So make sure you're staying in the capacity of the 7,000 mark. Now, the other thing about this is it's going to be made from a Grade 80 steel and it's going to have a zinc plating on there. What that means is, one, it's very sturdy, and two, it's going to be resistant to rusting over time. But really, that's a lot of the big details. At the end of the day, this is just going to be something that's more convenient to hook up to compared to your standard safety chain loops on your hitch. Now when it comes to installing it, it can be a little bit difficult. I do recommend having a friend to help you out with that process. But the biggest thing is you're going to need a hammer and if you ever do need to remove this, you're going to want a hammer and a punch. But in most cases, this is just going to live on your vehicle for the rest of time. All right, so to put this together, what we're going to do is grab one half of it, put it through our safety chain loop. We're going to grab the other half and line it up just like that. Then I'm going to put that center on here. Try to make sure it is properly lined up. I'm going to push my pin through. I'm probably going to push it through the other side so it's a little bit easier to hammer. The trickiest part of all this is making sure everything stays in place. Okay, I think that's looking pretty good. If you have someone to help you out with this process, I'd recommend have them give you a hand. (tool pounding) This might take a little bit. So again, I do recommend if a friend is around, they might be able to help you out. (tool tapping) All right, so now this is all the way hammered on there. So you can just come by, come here with your hook. And my hook is a little bit large for our application today, but I know this is going to work fine.
