Hi, Matt with etrailer. Today we are going to be talking about the etrailer jack that's going to be electric that's rated for 3,500 pounds and it's going to utilize your 7-pole to get power to it. And it's going to come with the etrailer foot plate that's going to be a tongue weight scale. This is going to be a great option for you if you're looking for a type of jack that's going to be more so for those moderate to larger size trailers since it does have a higher capacity to it and you're looking for something that's going to be a little bit more reliable when it comes to power. Because if you've ever been in that situation where you go to connect to your trailer to get power to it for your jack and it doesn't move because the battery is dead, that's where a 7-pole comes into place. This is going to be a much more reliable source of power because if your vehicle's running, you're going to be able to get power from it.
The other thing I like about this kit is two things. It's going to make sure we're safer on the road because if you have the improper tongue weight, you can even disconnect or cause an accident in some severe cases. The other thing is it's going to make your ride quality more comfortable because you're not going to feel as much of that chucking and it's just going to kind of smooth out everything so you don't feel those bumps as much. But what I like specifically about this tongue weight scale is one, it's very small, very compact, and it's easy to use. All we have to do is make sure we're connected to our trailer with our truck.
We're going to lift up that foot plate and remove the one that stays on there full time. Once that one's removed, we throw this one on there. You have two orientations that you can put on since we have two sets of holes. Once that's on there, you'll just lower it back down on the ground, get your reading, and then you can remove it. When we compare this to other types of tongue weight scales out there, they typically involve a lot of back and forth where you have to couple, uncouple, pull forward, back.
This takes a lot of that movement out of the equation. Now I want to go over all the parts of this. So I'm going to start with the jack. So when you go to operate it, there is going to be an up and a down button. They feel pretty comfortable to press and I can talk over them just fine so it doesn't get too loud and it moves at a decent pace.
We're also going to have this light switch in front of there. That's going to help you at night when you are coupling up. And then here at the very back of it, we are going to have this little tap that comes completely off and you can actually manually operate this if you ever need to, if you can't get power for whatever reason. When it comes to the amount of travel you're going to have with this, this is going to have 18 inches of travel. So that's a lot. So that's going to work with a wide range of trailers out there no matter what height it is. And if you need a little bit more height, this actually comes with this foot plate that has multiple holes on here. So compared to the tongue weight scale I have on there right now, you can get this much higher. And when it comes to the weight capacity to this, it's going to be able to handle quite a bit. 3,500 pounds is a lot of tongue weight for a jack. Now if you need something that's more so better suited for your weight distribution because you'll be lifting up your vehicles back end and your trailer's front end at the same time to actually kind of get that set up, I'd actually recommend checking out the 5,000 capacity version of this. Now another thing I want to talk to speaking of weight capacity is going to be the actual foot plate with that tongue weight scale on there. Looking at this scale here, you're going to notice two things. One, we got a lot of these little notches. These notches are going to be in 50 pound increments and this is going to have a max capacity of 2,000 pounds. Like I was saying earlier, this jack itself is rated for 5,000 pounds. So this is going to be the lowest rated component right here is this scale. But again, there's not going to be too many trailers out there that is going to exceed a 2,000 pound tongue weight.
