Hi, Matt with etrailer. Today we are gonna be talking about the JackRabbit, Pace Edwards, retractable tonneau cover on the back of our 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. So I think this is gonna be a really solid choice for a lot of people out there if they are looking for something that is gonna look a bit nicer compared to some other tonneau covers. Because that is one of the big benefits you get with one of these is you get this really sleek look on the back of your truck. And this one really excels at that. For a couple of reasons.
One, you do get this vinyl finish on the very top and it is very low profile so you barely notice it as well. The other thing that I like about this and some more hard tonneau covers out there is the protection you get with it. Now most tonneau covers give you a really good job at protection from the elements so your gear doesn't get all wet. But this also will protect you from any thieves because I know the top looks soft but it is actually a pretty hard casing underneath there. So you get the benefit of both of those.
Now using it is also really easy to do but before I get into that I want to make sure you guys are getting the right cover for yourselves. Because this is gonna be a custom fit thing. So it is gonna be determined by your year, make and model and also your bed size. Today we got this on a 5 and 3/4 foot bed so make sure you put in your vehicle's information to a fit guide so you get the right one. Now when it comes to operating it, you need to make sure it is unlocked.
So right now if I go to turn this knob here, it is not doing anything because it is currently locked. So I am gonna just push that up, grab my keys, you get two of them. We are gonna turn it 180 degrees and from there we can turn it a little bit more. If you just turn it just a little bit, it is gonna retract some. But if I turn it back, it is gonna stop.
Because there is gonna be designated spots for this to stop at. I will open up my tailgate so we can get a better look at this. Now I know some people will just kind of send it all the way down. And you don't have to keep the key in here. You can just remove it completely. You do that. I can then turn it all the way to the side by about 90 degrees. And then it will retract the rest of the way. Now when I pull it back towards me, you are gonna hear some clicks. Like there. If I stop, it is gonna stop at that location. So I like that because if you have something that is kind of an odd shape in your bed, you can have this kind of half open or half closed. It is still accommodate for that. And it is gonna have a few different spots that it can stop at. Until we get to the very end. And then turn that again. And that is the thing. If you are gonna be guiding it through, it might stop on you. So I know some people will just turn that. And it will fall in the rest of the way. Now you do get a lot of benefits with this style of tonneau cover. But it is gonna take up a little bit of space in your bed. And we are gonna see how much space it takes up exactly. So inside of our bed from that wall to let's say the blanket itself or the cover itself. That is gonna be roughly about 15 inches. So that is something to consider with anything with a shorter bed like we have right now. If you have really large items, you are gonna have less space to really play around with. If that is a big concern for you, I would recommend checking out some other options. I know there are some tri-fold tonneau covers that will fold up. The other two things we want to take into account is the space underneath the cover. So we are gonna start with that canister right now. This is gonna be roughly about a foot of clearance underneath here. Also take into account we do have these tubings coming from the canister. That is so when water kind of pools on top of this canister, if it does go through, it is not gonna retain in here. It has a way to go out and not go into your bed. But this is gonna be enough room if you have anything like let's say some bags of concrete, mulch, totes, anything like that. Most of that will fit underneath here. And this does kind of have this bevel here, so that is only gonna be a little tiny bit of space that is gonna be under a foot. You go out a
