Hi, this is Scott with etrailer, and today we're taking a look at and installing our CURT Hitch on our 2025 Ram ProMaster 2500. The ProMaster is gonna be a really versatile vehicle, and you can haul a lot of stuff in this, but it's nice to add to that versatility by adding a hitch. With our CURT hitch here, you're gonna be able to add bike racks, maybe a cargo carrier, or you can pull some trailers behind this. So this hitch is gonna be a really nice looking gloss black. It's gonna be a powder coat finish, so it's gonna hold up really well over time against scratches and any kind of corrosion. It's gonna have a reinforced collar, so that's gonna help it be pretty durable.
It's also gonna have a two inch by two inch receiver opening, so that's gonna accept most of your common accessories that are on the market today. This hitch is gonna have a 5/8 pinhole opening, and that's gonna hold any of your accessories in to your hitch. Now this won't come with a pin and clip, so you may want to pick one up here at etrailer. But a lot of your accessories like your bike racks or your cargo carriers may come with the anti-rattle pin. This hitch is gonna have heavy duty welded on chain loops.
It's gonna accept either your S style hooks or your Clevis style, so either one of those are gonna work for you if you plan on pulling a trailer. As far as measurements go, from the center of our pinhole out to the edge of our bumper, we're looking at right around two inches. With that measurement, you'll be able to decide on if you have any accessories that fold up or stow away will make any contact with the back of your ProMaster. Now from the top inside lip down to the ground. For that measurement, we're looking at right at around 18 1/2 inches.
That measurement will help you decide on what type of a ball mount you may need. Or it'll also help you figure out if you have any accessories like a bike rack or cargo carrier, if you'll need any rise in the shank of those for clearance. As far as weight ratings go for this hitch, we're looking at a tongue weight rating of 500 pounds. That's gonna be the weight of your bike rack loaded down with your bikes or your cargo carrier loaded down with all of your gear, pushing down on the lower portion of the hitch itself. Now for a gross trailer weight rating, we're looking at 5,000 pounds.
That's gonna be the weight of your trailer and everything that you have loaded on that. Now keep in mind, it's always a good idea to take a look in your owner's manual and make sure that you're not exceeding any of the maximum towing capabilities listed in there. Now if you plan on doing some towing with your ProMaster, while you're doing your hitch, it's usually a good idea to go ahead and do your four-pole wiring. I know we do have some options from CURT for that, and they're really good high quality stuff. Another thing to take a look at is maybe a ball mount. I really like the etrailer adjustable ball mounts. Those work out really well, so that way you have that one stop kind of deal, where that's gonna work for any kind of trailers that you have. Now as far as installation goes, this one's pretty straightforward and it's pretty simple to do. To start our installation, I have our van up in the air and underneath of our bumper cover, we're gonna have four T30 torque bits. We're gonna go ahead and get those removed. While we're underneath of here, right back here on the back of the body of our van, we're gonna have a 15 millimeter nut that goes to our bumper beam. While I'm under here, I'm gonna go ahead and get that removed with a 15 millimeter socket. Now we have our rear doors opened up and along the back of our van, for our bumper cover, we're gonna have four more T30 torque spit screws. And again, we'll just go ahead and get those removed. Now we can remove our bumper cover and we'll set that
