Hi, I'm Matt with etrailer. Today we're gonna be talking about the Pop and Lock lock for your tailgate, that's gonna be the electric one. And we're gonna have this on our 2017 Chevrolet Colorado. So, let's take a closer look at it. So I think this is gonna be great for anyone who does have a vehicle or something like this, this is gonna be before 2020. Reason being a lot of the base model trims don't come with an electric lock on here.
And having an electric lock like this just makes things a lot easier and a lot more convenient. Just use a press of a button and have it respond to you just like that. And if you're looking for max security, you can pair this up with a tonneau cover so when you do go to put this up, people won't be able to get into the front of it and that tonneau cover will protect the top of it, especially if you have anything important back there. Now I do want to say this is all gonna be a internal installation. So it's not gonna change the exterior of this at all, which I do like, it makes it a lot simpler.
But when it does come to the installation, there are a few notes I have for you. One, you're gonna have to run some wires underneath your vehicle. So that's gonna be kind of tight. And when it comes to wiring into the inside of your vehicle, this is gonna be a big bundle of wires. You got to find the right one.
So if you don't feel very comfortable with something like that or you just don't have the time, you can actually use our installer locator to find someone who can install it for you. But if you want to see what that process looks like, just stay tuned, we'll walk you through it. All right, so I'm actually gonna start at a different point than it says to do in your instructions. That's just because I like to get everything a little bit set up to go. So what I'm gonna be doing is kind of prepping the front side of our vehicle just so it's a little bit easier to wire it later on.
So I'm gonna open up my door. You got two methods of doing this. You could go from your engine bay through the firewall. I found that we had this plastic wall right by it and I didn't want to cut through that or drill through that. I found going underneath here is gonna be easier. So you'll route your wires underneath here and I'll show you that exact process later on. But to access it, we'll have to remove this threshold panel in here. So I'm just gonna lift up on there, push down on the other side, and this will disengage, go across until we almost reach this side here. Now that that's loose, what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna pull it towards me a little bit. It might be easier to get a hand on the back side of it because this one at the very top, we'll want some resistance right next there. There we go. With that removed, we can set this off to the side. All right, so with that removed, you'll notice we're gonna have this little casing here. And sometimes we'll have some tape. You'll just cut that loose. I'm good to go here, but I'm gonna disengage, hold those tabs going down it. So later on, when I need to splice into some of these wires, they'll be a little bit easier to grab. With that done, we're also gonna remove this carpeting or lift it up some I mean. So first, if you have any type of floor mat in here, make sure you take it out of here. There's gonna be a little clip here on the edge. I'm just gonna pull this towards me to remove there and then lift up some. And looking underneath there, I can actually see a grommet. And there's one that someone's already used prior. So I don't have to make any modifications to this one. And this is made out of plastic. So definitely keep an eye on that. When we are pushing our wire through here, we're gonna want to put some wire loom so we don't cut it. All right, so that's kind of prepped up on the front of our vehicle. Let's come back here so we can do a lot of the work here. So what we're gonna do is put down that tailgate and we have more access to this panel here. So we're gonna start by removing these bolts. And in your instructions, it's gonna recommend grabbing a T20 torque bit. I've actually found that using a 15 is a little bit better in my case. So I would just double check the size of this hardware so you get the right type of torque bit for it. I've already removed a few of the oth
