Throwback to November 2024: An epic return to the wild
Led by BKSDA West Kalimantan and TANAGUPA, and assisted by our dedicated partners at YIARI, a young orangutan named Marisa was released back into her natural habitat—just four months after a life-threatening injury.
Marisa was rescued from a village plantation where her mother had been killed. She was found alone, suffering from a serious leg wound caused by a sharp weapon. After intensive care and rehabilitation at YIARI’s centre in Ketapang, she made a full recovery.
Following a six-hour journey, Marisa was released into a remote part of Gunung Palung National Park—carefully chosen for its safety, natural barriers, and abundant food.
