When rescuers from the Ministry of Forestry opened the urine-soaked cardboard box, they thought Gito was already dead.
He was just a baby - less than five months old. Lifeless. Hairless. His tiny body grey and cracked from a parasitic skin condition. He’d been dumped in the blistering sun and left to die.
During the time he was kept as a pet, Gito had been fed nothing but condensed milk. Malnourished. Dehydrated. Barely breathing.
But thanks to emergency care, Gito survived. And slowly, he healed.
Today, Gito has made good progress - but it took years of patient rehabilitation from our partners, YIARI: expert veterinary care, daily enrichment, and the skills he’ll one day need to return to the wild.
