Guan Yu's trial teaches you how to fight officers. I had to stop and look up how to do this stuff because the text went by too fast on the screen for me to really take it in and it's not very obvious how to do the new stuff just playing naturally.

First of all, you can now "Lock On" to officers by simply blocking when you're close to them, you'll immediately start targeting one but good luck if you want to hit a specific one in a group. When locked on, you'll see an arrow indicating who you are locked onto. It's red when you're close and yellow when you're far.

When the arrow is yellow, you can then use "Long Range Attacks". Normal attacks do a quick multi-hit move, usually something that sends out a shockwave. Charge attacks do a strong, usually single hit attack. I'm using Jia Xu's moveset for my CAW, which happens to have unorthodox attacks, so my CAW will do a spinning scythe attack to pull enemies in with Normal and place a bomb that explodes when the enemy officer gets close for the Charge. The bomb is actually very powerful and easy to get the enemy to trigger.

Next is the Musou Rush, a new type of Musou attack that enters you into a mini-game with the opponent. It's one of five and the text at the bottom can tell you which one you're about to do, but it took me a while to notice it. There's one that's I think "数字タッチ" (number touch) where you have to switch to the touch pad and tap the numbers in order. This is harder for me to do on emulator since I have to let go of my control and scramble for my mouse, but recognizing that text at the bottom let me get prepared for it.

Musou Rush mini-games are easier for the attacker, giving you easier mini-games to do or just giving you a straight up starting advantage in numbers. When an enemy does them to you, it'll be harder to stop, especially if you aren't expecting the harder versions of the mini-games.

The movesets in the game have been trimmed down, EX attacks and 2nd musous are gone. You'll notice their animations being partially reused for Musou Rush and Long Range Attacks. Musou Rush is like a hybrid of new animations and old.

You can still use regular Musous of course. There's advantages and disadvantages to both. Musous can hit multiple officers and have no chance of backfiring, but can be blocked an deal less damage. Musou Rushes only hit one officer and failing the mini-game means they take no damage, but they can't be blocked or whiff and deal significant damage.

The input for Musou Rush is to either tap the character icon on the touch pad when its flashing, or Hold A. I prefer to Hold A, but you can't remap which button you have to hold, so since I remapped Jump to my A button, I could sometimes accidentally trigger it when trying to jump, or the game just didn't register a jump unless I only LIGHTLY tapped it. Controls are just sort of a mess in this no matter what you do. At least there's not much touch pad control necessary.

Oh and another cool thing you can do is hold down Charge attacks, including the Long Range Charge, to turn it into an unblockable attack. It'll have a red trail effect when you do it.
