12:26 - Zhao Yun's Trial
This is Dynasty Warriors VS, or Shin Sangoku Musou VS if you want to be particular. It was released on the 3DS in Japan only, so don't expect to understand any of it unless you're fluent. Fortunately you really don't need all that much context. The opening cutscene shows the character fighting over an orb like it's important but it never comes up in story. That's just an item pick up in VS mode.
Yes because as you might can tell by the title, they REALLY wanted this game to be big on multiplayer. It's got VS in the title, it's the first menu option you start with, there's guest characters that can only be used in it, etc. But obviously no one actually wanted a multiplayer focused Warriors game so it sold poor even in Japan.
But it does have two modes of interest. Tutorial Mode has new dialogue and whatnot of the characters training your custom made Create-a-Warrior. It's not worth translating over, it's basically "hi, you're a fresh face, we're all gonna teach you how to be a warrior" in different variations depending on character.
I show off the character creator and other beginning stuff, then go straight into Tutorial Mode to start with Zhao Yun's trial. His trial is simple, just teaching you the basics of the game. How to attack and use Musou/Team Skills.
The controls are a bit awkward to get used to. The face buttons are all switched around by default. Musou is the Jump button, Jump is where Musou usually is, and Normal/Charge attack buttons are switched from their usual positions too. So I had to go and change that in the options after a few stages.
Musou Skill is a character skill you can use with L2. You can use it when the gauge fills over time where the kanji is in the bottom left of the screen. You can pick one for your CAW and even unlock more and change it later. I stuck with a simple "Recover" skill to heal my own HP, you can actually lose health pretty fast here against officers so it pretty much always comes in handy.
Team Skills are dependent on your team composition, it can be used with R2. You can use it when the gauge fills over time above the character icons on the touch screen next to the map. These have various effects that usually affect the whole team, sometimes even the whole map. They can do stuff like heal everyone, damage bases, heal your own, stun officers, etc.
