This is the Happy ending, obtained by finishing Chapter 19 with an Overall A/S rank on stages, and while defeating all gods with a Lv2 or higher Deathblow. There may also be some other requirements, no one's really sure 100% how it unlocks. I tried to get this before the True ending but wasn't able to. It's possible that seeing the True ending first is a requirement, or getting 19 Wisdom Fragments (you get the last 20th one after clearing this stage), or having an A rank on every stage in addition to the overall A rank of the current story run, or having played the Ozranger stage, or even clearing Henchmen Mode, who knows?
Anyways, for this stage we have a new boss to fight, Atheus, the leader of the God Hunters. First he's like this giant bug thing that hangs from the invisible ceiling, then when he's defeated in that form, he becomes more human looking. Well, more like a Devilman or Devil Trigger or Devil Jin type thing. He's more devilish. He's not especially hard, you really just have to build up Tension and spam Deathblows on him in both phases. I spent a bit too long struggling to get the gauge up because I wanted a Lv3 to finish him with lol.
For this ending, everyone shows up to help, although we don't really get a final cutscene, it just kind of goes to credits after the gods' domain blows up. At the end of the credits we see the party staring out over a cliff, so I guess they made it out okay. Also the ending theme for this ending is pretty nice. Oh, and there's lots of outfits referencing other Konami stuff you can unlock in this, just have to buy them for an absurd price. You can see some of them in the credits. Leon gets a Castlevania outfit, for example.
At time of writing I haven't played any more of the game, I don't think I have it in me to unlock the Bad ending since that requires you to have a D/C overall ranking and you have to deliberately get killed and leave the game running to extend the time limit to get bad enough scores for that. And I already had to play through this thing 3+ times trying to figure out how to unlock the Happy ending. Collecting all 20 Wisdom Fragments unlocks Dorothy's Adventure, a mode where you play as Dorothy with Toto as your only ally. It's kind of amusing because Dorothy is absurdly strong, but it's just replaying story stages with no dialogue or anything so it's not particularly interesting. Don't think I'll play it, buy maybe one day if I feel like coming back just to play it.
Overall I enjoyed the game, but its clunkiness and long recovery time really hampers what could otherwise feel great to play. I feel like they went too far trying to make it where the player HAD to do the juggling to get Deathblows to be able to fight the bosses, instead of just making that be an effective bonus that rewarded more Etheria, and let the player be allowed to play it more like a normal action game. If you could react quicker, and do the same pursuit attacks your allies do to make juggling enemies easier, I think that'd go a long way to making the game feel fantastic. But that's not what we got, so it's hard to recommend.
The story I found interesting, like it didn't do anything do different as far as the characters go, but I found the world and the enigmatic gods and the otherworldly God Hunters to be interesting aspects, and I certainly appreciate that being showed through gameplay as well as story, like the boss fight where the God Hunters will swarm the Wind God.
A fun experience for me, but definitely not for everyone. Also too damn hard. You know something's difficult if I have to drop a game on Easy lol.
