European Commissioner for the Mediterranean Dubravka Šuica said the European Commission is ready to support Ceuta following recent migration pressure.
Speaking at the Informal Meeting of Foreign Affairs Ministers — Gymnich in Druids Glen, County Wicklow, Ireland, Šuica said she will meet the governor or president of Ceuta next week at the European Commission.
She said the aim is to see how the Commission can better help local authorities.
Šuica underlined that Ceuta is part of Spain and therefore mainly falls under Spanish responsibility.
But she also made clear that the European Union is ready to help where it can.
Her message was careful but important: Ceuta is Spain’s responsibility, but Europe has a role to play in solidarity, support and border cooperation.
