On September 19, 2024. Officers from the Slinger Police Department were notified by the Washington County Sheriff’s Department that a stolen truck had fled from deputies and was heading toward their jurisdiction. Shortly later, an officer observed a vehicle that matched the description traveling at a high rate of speed. The officer was able to confirm that it was the same vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop.
The driver (Jonathan) refused to pull over and began fleeing at speeds over 100 MPH. He ran multiple stop signs and nearly struck a deputies squad car. Law enforcement were able to deploy spike strips which successfully deflated the front two tires of the truck. After approximately 35 minutes and 40 miles later, the truck pulled over. Jonathan exited and began shouting at officers. After multiple commands to get out the ground, he finally complied and laid down with his hands behind his back.
After being secured in handcuffs, Jonathan began shouting at officers, repeatedly asking why they had chased him. He stated that he did not want to speed or run any stop signs but the officer kept chasing him. Jonathan was charged with Vehicle Operator Fleeing or Eluding an Officer, Drive or Operate a Vehicle without the Owners Consent, 2nd-Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, and two counts of misdemeanor bail jumping. He was found guilty but not guilty on all charges by reason of mental disease or defect and was ordered to be committed to a secure treatment facility for eight years.
