On August 29, 2024. An officer from the Dodgeville Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle whose registered owner's license was revoked. The officer approached the vehicle and recognized the driver (Cassie) and knew that she didn't have a valid license. Cassie was showing signs of intoxication and had a drink in her cup holder which appeared to be a mixed drink from a bar. The officer removed the drink from her vehicle and confirmed that it had an odor of alcohol. Cassie exited the vehicle and began field sobriety tests. It began to storm in the meantime and officers decided to finish the field sobriety tests at the police department. At the police department, it was decided that Cassie failed the tests and was asked to place her hands behind her back. She became upset and decided to run towards an open garage door. There was another officer standing right outside of the garage door and was able to tackle Cassie as she attempted to run out of the building. Cassie said “I was kidding” and officers decided to handcuff her and place her into a squad car. Cassie became very angry in the squad car, screaming, kicking and banging her head. She was transported to the hospital before being transported to the county jail to get booked. Cassie was found guilty for operating while intoxicated (3rd), resisting or obstructing an officer, and misdemeanor bail jumping. Multiple other charges were dismissed but read in while considering her sentencing including disorderly conduct, false emergency 9-1-1 call, possession of THC, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Cassie was sentenced to 135 days in jail, her license got revoked for 24 months, and she was order to pay nearly $2000 in fines.
