Hey guys! This is my last holiday tutorial of the season - I hope you’ve enjoyed them! Today I have a M/L Christmas Tree design for you - this one creates a fun piece of holiday decor which can be hung on the wall or wherever else you’d like. Let’s get started.
The tree is approx. 8 inches long and the fringe hanging underneath the tree is 7 inches long. The tree is 1.5 inches wide at the top and 4.5 inches wide at the bottom.
You’ll need 57 ft of 3mm string for this project (I’m using the colour Shamrock Green which is available in my shop) and a 1.5-inch ring.
Set up - Cut 3 6ft pieces of string, 3 5ft pieces of string and 2 4ft pieces of string. Set aside. Cut 2 8ft pieces of string and attach them to the ring using Cow Hitch knots.
Tie a square knot (SK).
Use the inside left cord as your filler cord and the outside left cord as your working cord and tie a double half hitch knot (DHHK). Repeat on the right side of your work.
Grab one of the 6 ft pieces of string, fold it in half and then attach it to the middle cords using a SK. Use the outside left cord as your filler cord and tie one DHHK. Tie another DHHK on the left and right sides of your work. Tie one more DHHK in the middle of your work with the two middle cords.
Use the inside left cord as your filler cord and tie 2 DHHKs working down and to the left. Repeat on the right side of your work. Grab another 6 foot piece of string, fold it in half and then attach it to the two middle cords using a SK.
Use the outside left cord as your filler cord and tie 2 DHHKs. Repeat on the right side of your work. Use the inside left cord as your filler cord and tie 3 DHHKs working to the left. Repeat on the right side of your work.
Grab the last 6 ft piece of string, fold it in half and then attach it to the middle cords using a SK. Skip the outside left cord and tie a SK with the next 4 cords. Repeat on the right side of your work.
Use the outside left cord as your filler cord and tie 4 DHHKs working down and to the right. Repeat on the right side of your work. Tie one more DHHK with the two middle cords.
Use the inside right cord as your filler cord and tie one DHHK. Repeat on the left side of your work. Grab a 5 ft piece of string and attach it to the two middle cords using a SK.
Use the same filler cord you were using and tie 3 more DHHKs working to the left. Repeat on the right side of your work.
Grab another 5 ft piece of string, fold it in half, skip the two cords on the left and then attach it to the next two cords using a SK. Repeat on the right side of your work.
Skip 4 cords on the left and tie a SK with the next 4 cords. Repeat on the right side of your work.
Use the outside left cord as your filler cord and tie 3 DHHKs working to the right. Repeat on the right side of your work.
Use the inside left cord as your filler cord and tie 7 DHHKs working to the left.
Tie a SK with the 4 middle cords. Grab the 2 4 ft pieces of string and attach them on either side of the SK using the same method we used to attach the rest of the cord.
Tie 2 alt. SKs underneath the 3 SKs. Skip the cord on the left and tie a SK with the next 4 cords. Repeat on the right side of your work. Tie a SK with the 4 middle cords.
Use the outside cord as your filler cord and tie 9 DHHKs working down and to the right. Repeat on the right side of your work.
Skip the cord on the left and tie a SK with the next 4 cords. Tie another SK with the next 4 cords. Tie an alt. SK underneath the 2 SKs. Repeat on the right side of your work.
Use the outside left cord as your filler cord and tie 8 DHHKs working to the right. Tie a DHHK with the two middle cords. Tie one more DHHK using the filler cord on the left.
Use the outside right cord as your filler cord and tie 9 DHHKs working to the left.
Use the outside cord as your filler cord and tie a DHHK. Grab the filler cord and working cord you just used and use them both as your filler cords when tying your next DHHK. Keep picking up the working cord you previously used to tie the next DHHK (you’ll have one more filler cord each time you tie your DHHKs). Tie 9 DHHKs total. Repeat on the right side of your work.
Trim the ends to whatever length you’d like - I’ve trimmed this piece so that the ends are 7 inches below the bottom of the knots.
