Hey guys! A while back I created a tutorial that show you how to create loops using the double half hitch knot. I’m expanding on that tutorial today - I’ll show you a few different variations and how to add in some colour. Let’s get started.
I’m using 4mm rope for this tutorial which can be purchased from my Etsy store or my website - please see the description for details. I’ve cut my cords approx. 2 meters long but I had quite a bit of cord left over once completed. When figuring out how much cord to cut for this pattern remember that the working cords will use up a lot more rope than the filler cords.
To create the first pattern use the cord on the left as your working cord and the cord on the right as your filler cord. Tie a vertical double half hitch knot from left to right, then tie a vertical double half hitch knot working from right to left and repeat.
To create the second pattern use the third cord from the left as your working cord and the cord on the right as your filler cord. Tie a vertical double half hitch knot working from left to right. Use the next cord on the left as your working cord and tie another vdhhk. Repeat. Now work your way back from right to left using the same process. Repeat that process to create a design of your desired length. Push the knots up the filler cord if needed.
To create the third pattern repeat the same process as the second pattern but add in two more working cords.
Rainbow Pattern
Cut 1 piece of 4mm rope that is 1 meter in length and 4 pieces of 4mm rope that are 2 meters in length. Fold them in half and attach to your dowel using Lark’s Head Knots. The shorter cord should be attached on the right of the other cords.
Use the same method to create the final rainbow pattern but tie your working cords around two filler cords instead of one.
