Materials:
Approx. 120 ft of 3mm Recycled String (Colour: Light Taupe)
Wooden Dowel (8 inches long)
Hey guys! I have a fun mini wall hanging for you today. I thought I’d change it up a bit and show you a different way to create a wall hanging. Let’s get started!
For this project you will need a dowel that is 8 inches in length and approx. 120 ft of 3mm recycled string in the colour light taupe.
Cut 20 pieces of 3mm light taupe string, each piece is 6 ft long. Grab 4 pieces and fold them in half. Use pins and attach them to a cork board. We will tie 3 eye diamonds. Leave about two inches of space and tie a double half hitch knot. Using the same filler cord tie 3 more dhhks working down and to the right. Tie 3 dhhks on the left.
Next we will attach the filler cord on the right to our dowel using a Lark’s Head knot. Slip the knot off of the dowel to make it easier to create the bottom half of the diamond. Put a pin in the filler cord so that you know where to start tying the dhhks to create the bottom half of the diamond. To create the eye diamond tie your 3 dhhks using the inner cord on the right first, middle cord second and most right cord last. Repeat on the left side but only leave a bit of space on the filler cord in between the knots. Tie one more dhhk to connect the diamond at the bottom.
Tie 2 more diamonds using that same process. When tying the dhhks to create the top half of the diamond on both sides use the outer cord first, middle cord second and inner cord third as your working cords.
Here is what it should look like once you’ve completed your 3 diamonds. Create your lark’s head knots again to attach your piece to your dowel. Cut the ends so that you’ve got a little fringe hanging from the side.
Next we will create our second column of diamonds.
Use the same process to create the top half of the diamond. Use a lark’s head knot to attach the filler cord to the previous column of diamonds. A tapestry needle might be useful here. Complete the column using the same process as your did to create the first column.
Create 3 more columns (5 total). Leave the ends on the sides as is or brush them out. I find that a combo of a pet brush and a comb works best to create your fringe. Add one more piece of string to the top to hang it on the wall. That’s it! Thanks for watching.
