We recently ran our first Team Building event at Jimmy's Farm & Wildlife Park and it was a great success. The large group were split into smaller teams, each was given the objective to build a dig box. We've used these feeders in other collections and they work great, and as Jimmys Farm has lots of species that could use them it was the perfect opportunity to make a whole load for the critters.
Each box has a hinged lid, and when the lid is open the mesh can be taken out and either swapped for mesh with different-sized holes, cardboard to dig through, or a combination of both. The box is then filled with substrate and the food is put in the bottom, to prolong feeding time and increase investigative behaviour. On the day they were tried with the meerkats and racoons, both of which gave them a full test.
A huge well done to the team for doing such a great job on these, it was great to work with you all.
