Here is another video taken from my band's recent gig in Frisby. This song is very popular, and it's great fun to play!
I seem to have actually managed to get this uploaded in HD! It's awesome quality, even on the 'lowest' setting! Took almost 5 hours to upload it though!!! What do you think?
Hope you enjoy our interpretation of this famous Lynyrd Skynyrd classic. Not sure how we ended up with it structured like this, but it works for us and audiences seem to love it - and that's the main thing :-)
This is one of the covers we do where I have not really studied the original. This is very much me doing what feels to me to be right. You can get away with doing your own thing on some covers, but of course, that is not always the case! For example, on 'Hey Joe' and 'Radar Love' I make a point of trying to play the original drum part as accurately as I am capable of - anything less would sound pants. (btw I have already uploaded us playing 'Hey Joe' from this gig - please take a look - er, even if I say so myself, I am very, very proud of my drumming on that video!).
Anyway, in our version of 'Alabama' the drum break thing just sort of evolved, and the band really liked it, so it is now a kind of 'signature' part of our set. Does require a bit of fast left handed cymbal choking followed by some fun fills though :-)
More from this gig coming soon - 'Radar Love'; 'Wind Cries Mary'; 'Redhouse' and maybe 'Freebird' and 'In The Midnight Hour'. We'll see.
Oh, and also me wearing a Gorilla suit and doing the Cadbury's advert thing. Yes, really.
Once agin, just to plug our beautiful Bose PA - we are using three Bose L1 model II PA units - one for bass and vocals; one for guitar and vocals and one for drums. Three of these cost more than the GDP of France, frankly. Anyway, this system is the business :-)
