Welcome back to The Old Cookbook Show! Today, we're diving into the Ceresota Cookbook from the Northwestern Consolidated Milling Company to make a vintage recipe: Barley Muffins Number Two. This unique recipe skips the wheat flour and instead uses barley and rye flour, giving the muffins a deep, earthy flavour with a slightly sharp bite that’s perfect for a savoury breakfast or snack. Join us as we uncover the history behind this classic recipe, experiment with unique ingredients, and compare it to the sweet, cake-like muffins we’re used to today. These barley muffins are ideal for anyone looking to explore traditional baking or seeking a delicious low-sugar muffin option!
