What would it have been like to be a Christian in the first months and years of the Christian church? There were many thousands born again in those first months, and yet they had no auditoriums, seminaries, no New Testament and perhaps only a few copies of the Old Testament.
They met on occasions to hear the apostles preach in the temple courts, but the real practice of the Church happened in their homes, hundreds of house churches united. They had a strict structure of authority, a necessary safe-guard against the emerging heresies of that time.
They shared their possessions, there were no needy Christians among them, they saw each other as real brothers and sisters of one family in Christ, they lived and often died together, and they transformed the world around them.
