Chester Cheetah: Wild Wild Quest is the sequel to Too Cool to Fool, and man, this is definitely the "Bubsy" of Chester Cheetah video games. Considering the developer of Too Cool to Fool, System Vision, didn't come back again for Wild Wild Quest, this meant that Kaneko had to make the sequel themselves. And oh man, it just pales in comparison to the first game.

Well, I'll give it one thing, the graphics are definitely an improvement! Chester's sprites are much bigger and more detailed, and in fact, everything is pretty much more detailed. Honestly though, there was something sorta charming about the flat color style of the first game, but the shading does make it look like they put in more effort.

But that's where the good sorta stops. The controls are well, okay I guess, though I get the feeling they're probably a little stiffer than the first game. The soundtrack also took a, well, let's just say Westernized hit. It definitely has a more Westernized Genesis game feel to it compared to the first game, and while I don't think it sounds that bad, honestly sorta charming in my opinion, I bet it could get tiring after a while, especially the Boss theme.

But the worst part? Chester Cheetah gets killed in one hit, and this is where the "Bubsy" part I mentioned at the beginning of the description comes into play. I mean, sure, bags of Cheetos can be found to give you an extra hit point so it's 2 instead of 1, but most of the time it's just gonna be 1, especially for the bosses. And man, without the help of BizHawk tools, I could imagine playing this game on real hardware would be a nightmare for certain levels and bosses. And expect to be dying a bunch by the way, because despite the larger sprites looking nicer, it actually becomes a problem since you can't really see many enemies ahead of you, especially if you're running most of the time.

So yeah, compared to the first game, this was pretty bad, but again, somehow better than the SNES version. But I still can't help but find it charming in most ways. Especially since it's a Cheetos game, long before the M&M's video games flooded the licensed food tie-in market, and Chester Cheetah is way cooler than the M&M's. Though that's probably pretty obvious since Chester was designed to be cool.
