Deaf poet Richard Carter's signed poem (in British Sign Language) "Identities" defends the rights of a deaf person to be deaf, to use sign language and to be gay. It shows anthropomorphisation as elements of his personality speak to him, and it is a poem of deaf politics and deaf identity. It was performed at the Centre for Deaf Studies at the University of Bristol in January 2009.
