What's up Geekly Goods fam! 😳 According to a new report, the Blue Beetle animated series has quietly stalled at HBO Max, and multiple industry sources are calling it dead in the water due to its young target demographic.
HBO Max has reportedly shifted its overall strategy away from children's programming since it hasn't performed as well as expected, and that shift appears to be directly impacting Blue Beetle's future. HBO Max has not formally cancelled the series yet, but if it does get axed, DC won't even be able to shop it around to another streaming service since it's an HBO Max original production. That's honestly a shame, because the Blue Beetle film was such a fun watch, and it feels like exactly the kind of character kids would genuinely connect with.
We're not entirely sure why this character keeps running into obstacles. Even if the young-audience angle isn't working, they could easily adjust the tone and aim for something more TV-14, and we'd be completely on board with that. At the end of the day, we're just trying to get Xolo Maridueña back into the DCU in a bigger way. He's set to appear in Man of Tomorrow, but honestly, this character deserves his own dedicated series.
