In April 1972, North Vietnamese and Viet Cong forces launched a major offensive against South Vietnam. The assault came as the United States pursued peace talks in Paris and continued “Vietnamisation,” reducing its ground troop presence and shifting the war's burden onto South Vietnamese forces.
ITN’s Michael Nicholson reported from key battlegrounds across the country, including the contested approaches to An Loc along Highway 13, and the country's Central Highlands. His reports captured South Vietnamese forces facing their first major test as an increasingly independent fighting force, alongside the mounting toll on soldiers and civilians amid intense combat.
