Batman Crimson Mist concludes the vampiric Batman trilogy. Following previous events, Batman lies in a tomb, staked through the heart and supposedly dead. However, because they didn't also decapitate him, he's only paralyzed, his thirst unbearable but unable to be quenched, the very definition of hell for him. Which Alfred seems to detect as he's once again awakened by a nightmare. Meanwhile, a multitude of Batman villains take advantage of his disappearance and wreak havoc, Gordon meeting with Alfred to bemoan Batman's passing and that he's no longer around to handle these threats. However, Alfred speculates that Batman is not truly dead, thus, in the face of this increasing danger, goes into the crypt and wrenches the stake from Batman's chest, indeed reviving him, but proving that a long period of decay and bloodlust has not done wonders for his psyche. He screams at Alfred they should have killed him when they had the chance, but Alfred counters that things have gotten much worse than he could imagine and he's needed no matter what state he's in. He knocks Alfred away before he can drain him and fades into mist to escape the tomb and face the villains. As Penguin attempts to spring an ambush for a group of police officers, Batman flies in and instead springs at Penguin, making quick work of him, before turning on the rest of the gang, demanding information and wiping out Penguin's entire organization. Gordon then summons him through the bat signal, where he gives the barely sane Batman a puzzle left by The Riddler, Batman swearing that he will destroy all the villains and drain them dry, but what happens afterwards, even he doesn't know. He then goes after Riddler, killing him as he smuggles drugs inside a corpse, before then engaging Scarecrow, stopping him from murdering his former classmates and decapitating him. After he then rips out Poison Ivy's throat, Alfred and Gordon reconvene to discuss the monster he's become, agreeing that at the earliest possible opportunity, they have to put him down again. They're summoned to the bat signal, only to find Two Face and Killer Croc waiting, who insist they join forces against Batman. Gordon refuses and the villains retreat for now, Gordon vowing that he will not risk any other lives against stopping Batman. The former hero drops in on and slaughters the Black Mask gang, all while wondering why he's doing what he's doing and if he may truly have a spark of sanity left. He sticks the heads on spikes at Arkham Asylum as a sign of foreboding, and that night also enters the building, killing every single inmate and leaving Doctor Arkham a note saying he's no longer needed. Hearing of the massacre, Gordon reconsiders the alliance and the team decide to ambush Batman in the remnants of the Bat Cave, intending to destroy the roof and expose him to sunlight. Batman overhears them, but welcomes their idea, as he once again checks with Ariane to see if a vampire can well and truly be extinguished. She has no answer, so Batman flies away, hoping their plan will work and realizing soon he won't even be able to realize the monster he's become, losing all restraint and no longer going after only villains, before possibly beginning his own vampiric legion to dominate the world.
