Let's take a look through DC Comics' Elseworlds imprints, and see where and when the imprint has decided to place these legendary heroes! And if they work in their new environments.

The Once and Future League. The sorcerer Felix Faust challenges the entire Justice League to meet him in a meteor crater, who show up just to see how stupid he is to demand such a thing. They're ambushed by a legion of demons they make quick work of, but they notice their powers starting to falter. The remaining legion fly away as Faust finishes his ritual, calling upon a demon that embues him with enough power to subject the crater to a massive explosion, proving enough to end even the strongest members of the Justice League. With them out of the way, Faust conquered the world with his magic and technology, destroying all remaining heroes and ushering in what he deemed a utopia, though was anything but. A century later, Dr Jonas relates the story of the heroes to a small class, calling attention to how inhumane Faust's methods have truly been. Only for Faust's guards to locate them, killing or subjugating everyone except for Jonas, who escapes in the confusion. Meanwhile, Faust bemoans how boring everything has become since conquering the world, thus decides to locate and execute all known resistance groups to mark the hundredth anniversary of his rule. Jonas retreats to the main center of the resistance, where he's notified of Faust's announcement, thus declares that they must act as soon as possible. It's revealed they've been working hard to replicate superpowers and abilities in brave volunteers, attempting to create their own version of the Justice League, which Jonas says is ready enough, dressing them in their appropriate costumes. They assault a prison facility to free their captured number, though cracks in their teamwork begin to appear almost immediately as the Superman stand-in Ross alerts the guards to their presence. The heroes quickly find out they've been had as they barely escape the exploding facility, Ross leaving a message that the Justice League lives. Which Faust reveals he already knows about, he just wants some fun and to bring them out in the open so he can obliterate them as he did the original members. Also revealing that Ross is his inside agent. The rest of the team make it back to base, where it's shown Jonas is a Martian, before he takes his human form and welcomes the heroes back. They watch Faust broadcast his reaction to the world, denouncing them as terrorists and that he will destroy them and all resistance groups in the same area he did the first. Thus Jonas changes their strategy to one of propaganda, saying they must shake the world's faith in Faust and expose him for the monster he is. They begin to do hero work around the world, starting with preventing a reactor meltdown. Ross flies in, intending to instead destroy the plant and make the team look worse, but the presence of a worker begging him for help causes him to develop a conscience and he prevents the disaster, much to Faust's disappointment. The day of execution arrives and the heroes rush to stop it, Ross flying ahead still trying to comprehend what he had just done. Faust confronts him about disobeying orders, but says it doesn't matter as long as he turns on his team, which Ross seems to do, sending a legion of demons to meet the young heroes. As they're overwhelmed, it's revealed Jonas is in fact THE Martian Manhunter, who somehow survived the blast and takes out Ross, before going after Faust personally. Faust simply says everything's in place and begins the same ritual that destroyed the original team, only for something to go horribly wrong, the spirits of the Justice League appearing and dragging Faust and Ross to hell. Manhunter reveals this was his plan all along, hoping the ritual might bring the Justice League back, but what he got was satisfactory and now they can all rest in peace. Thus the remaining new Justice League set out to rebuild and protect the world. This... yeah, this was pretty bad. I wanted to like this one, it started out interesting enough, and I wanted to see these new heroes in action. But the structure and pacing is AWFUL. The flashback with the original heroes is too long and could have been cut down to Faust vaporizing them, meanwhile we're given practically no information about this world or the new heroes and their personalities. The scene with the power plant served no purpose, nor did Ross' seeming path to redemption or even him working for Faust in the first place, and talk about a cop-out with the ending! The artwork's really nice and colorful, but there are way too many oversized panels and not enough filling them.
